Former Longwood BOV Rector Susan Harwood died July 20 in Lynchburg. She was 76.

Harwood was appointed to the Board of Visitors by Gov. George Allen in 1996. She went on to serve as vice rector and rector before ending her term in 2002. A retired banker, Harwood was a community volunteer, a braille translator and a docent at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
